This session provides an introduction to placing an on-premise SQL Server database into SQL Azure and focuses on how existing Office Applications used for BI and Application Development can continue to function when directly connected to SQL Azure. We share our own experiences of assisting companies in moving the data, developing multi tenanted solutions, managing security and refining the application design.
Andrew Couch
Andrew has been developing with Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server for over 14 years and specialises in Client-Server design, acting as a contractor and consultant to software companies and other businesses. As a specialist in the migration of Access database to both SQL Server and SQL Azure he has developed a commercial software tool; Migration Upsizing SQL Tool (MUST available from www.upsizing.co.uk). Working in business partnership with www.accesshosting.com he has developed automated software tools for converting Access applications to run in SharePoint in the cloud. As a director and one of the founding members of the UK Access User Group (www.ukaugcommunity.co.uk) he presents at various UK developer events. Andrew has been awarded MVP status for 3 years, and recently acted as a Technical Reviewer for Microsoft Press on the book 'Microsoft Access 2010 Inside Out' and is currently writing his first book for Microsoft Press
